Dan Salois served with Roseville Fire Department for over 25 years as a Firefighter Paramedic before retiring. Throughout his career he witnessed firsthand the cumulative toll that emergency response takes on first responders, and he became a passionate advocate for peer support and mental health resources within the fire service. As a certified peer support specialist, Dan recognized that traditional approaches to wellness often fell short of what his colleagues truly needed. When he learned about Hearts 4 Heroes USA, he saw an opportunity to bring something genuinely different to Roseville Fire — a living, breathing source of comfort that could reach people in ways that words alone cannot. Blaze joined Dan and the Roseville Fire family as a comfort canine, and the impact was immediate. Whether responding to a critical incident, visiting crew members after a difficult shift, or simply being present at the station, Blaze has become an essential part of the department's peer support culture. Dan handles Blaze with the same dedication and professionalism he brought to every aspect of his career, ensuring that Blaze is always ready to serve when his teammates need him most.
